The most flat pneumatic Quick-Change Pallet Module in the world
With a height of 20 mm, the VERO-S NSE mini module from SCHUNK is the most flat pneumatic Quick-Change Pallet Module in the world. This provides ideal conditions for retrofitting existing machines, making full use of the engine room, and allows direct clamping of small workpieces. The patented drive concept consists of a fast stroke and a clamping stroke, and ensures that the compact module of the innovative family-owned company has a highly compact performance. At a module diameter of 90 mm, and a clamping pin diameter of only 20 mm, the NSE mini also has integrated turbo function and enormous pull-in forces of up to 1500 N. The clamping pin is positioned via a short taper and is fixed with three clamping slides. Locking is done mechanically via spring force. It is self-locking and form-fitted. The large contact surfaces between clamping slide and pin minimize the surface pressure in unclamped condition, and also the wear of the module.

Powerhouse for 5-axis machining
The KONTEC KSX NC vise from SCHUNK is a powerful clamping system for simultaneous 5-axis machining. The compact, and easily accessible clamping system from the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems disposes of tool-free adjustable clamping forces between 4 and 40 kN, which are measured directly at the workpiece. This is a great deal of power for a safe hold, even for minimum clamping surfaces.

Compact Quick-Change Module
Small, confined spaces will always be an issue when using pallets and tools for automatic handling with a robot. Particularly for this type of applications, SCHUNK the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems developed the slim NSR-A quick-change module with optimized interfering contour, which allows loading very close to the assembly or machine table. Very low attachments to the clamping station and pallet are feasible, and there is enough space for the components and the axis motion. For supplying the modules, handling, and assembly tools, the module can be additionally equipped with a SCHUNK standard media transfer for pneumatics, electric, or fluids.

Direct clamping with a membrane
SCHUNK, the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems enlarges its program for high-performance direct clamping: the innovative family-owned company has developed the SPM plus 138 fixture membrane made of aluminum, where workpieces of various clamping geometries are clamped from all sides with a pull-down effect. First, a 0.5 mm high tuning ring is inserted between the quick-change pallet module and the fixture membrane, then the exact workpiece geometry is milled according to the blank of the fixture’s clamping surface. Once prepared, the workpieces can be inserted within seconds, and the complete circumference is clamped by locking the VERO-S module and the fixture membrane is specifically deformed.

Home game for Jens Lehmann and the German Machine Tool Industry
Inspired by the dynamics of the world-class goalkeeper and SCHUNK brand ambassador, Jens Lehmann, leading providers of the German machine tool industry did not talk about bland performance data, efficient process networking, and effective CRM tools during the recent technology-goalkeeper discussion at SCHUNK, the expert in clamping technology and gripping systems. This time, the discussion has been focused more than ever on the human factor. It quickly becomes clear: Many aspects of the soccer game can be transferred to this industry: The enthusiasm and joy of peak performances and also how to deal with defeats.

Precise partners for automated pallet change
SCHUNK, the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems has developed the VERO-S NSA plus palletizing module and the VERO-S NSR robot coupling for automated pallet change. Both are extremely flat, work precisely, and ensure consistently high process stability. With the fast and clamping strokes patented by SCHUNK, the palletizing module achieves pull-in forces of up to 20.000 N. The holding forces are higher than 100.000 N. Even in the case of demanding volume cutting the extreme shear forces are reliably absorbed without having to change the workpiece position.

Low-cost introduction into the square pole technology
By means of comprehensive standardization, SCHUNK, the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems succeeded in providing a very economic introduction of the square pole technology to the average consumer. The investment costs for square pole plates of the MAGNOS Performance Line are 40% lower than conventional, multi-purpose modifiable MAGNOS square pole plates. According to SCHUNK, this series will be of particular interest for all users, who will benefit from the advantages of magnetic clamping technology for the first time, or who will use the clamping chucks for their applications in a targeted manner.

Chuck Jaws - The underestimated collaborators
In view of sophisticated lathe chucks, clamping blocks with compact performance, and highly engineered devices, the technological possibilities of chuck jaws may seem at the first glance rather limited. In reality, however, these direct interfaces to the workpiece open up enormous potentials: Beside conventionally hard and soft top jaws, a broad range of established chuck jaws ensure that even tricky clamping tasks can be economically solved. An overview shows what is potentially possible.

Rapid workpiece change on milling/turn centers
The VERO-S NSL turn clamping station from SCHUNK, the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems is a real productivity booster for milling/turning centers. It is based on the highly efficient VERO-S quick-change pallet system, and transfers the effect of the rapid workpiece change onto the lathe machining. By means of the patented double angled stroke, and the integrated turbo function, the NSL turn achieves pull-down forces of up to 125 kN, and holding forces of up to 375 kN. Therefore the clamping station from the innovative family-owned company ensures an extremely rigid and reliable clamping of devices and workpieces. A centering taper ensures a runout accuracy of less than 0.01 mm. Locking of the three or five integrated clamping modules is done via two clamping slides. It is self-locking and uses form-fit clamping. During machining the clamping station is unpressurized. Integrated springs provide for a permanent and secure clamping. For opening the locking, a pneumatic system pressure of 6 bar is sufficient.

Powerful robot coupling for pallet handling
If machine tools are loaded automatically, a reliable, precise, and space saving workpiece
change is playing an important role. For this particular case, SCHUNK, the competence
leader for clamping technology and gripping systems has developed a slim, lightweight
coupling with minimized interfering contours, where the pallet loading is taking place very
close to the machine table. By using the VERO-S NSR, very thin attachments to the clamping
station and pallet are feasible, and therefore a lot of space remains for the workpiece in
the machine room, and for the axes motions.

Square pole technology increases productivity
in surface grinding up to 200%
Users who have to reach high accuracies during surface grinding can now sharply increase their productivity. Compared to conventional parallel pole technology, the MAGNOS square pole grinding plates from SCHUNK, the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems, can achieve an increase in productivity up to 200%. This is due to the use of moveable pole extensions which ensure a homogenous, deformation-free clamping. They are used for grinding flat workpieces, unevenness is compensated, parallelism is ensured, and therefore micron precise grinding operations can be carried out at the first go.
