TRIBOS-RM ISO: The high-performance TRIBOS for micro-machining
A tiny marvel with massive power. Different laws apply when it comes to micro-machining. That’s why TRIBOS-RM is also available as an expert for micro-machining with ISO interface.
The rotationally symmetric design ensures the long service life of the machine spindle and full transmission of its power. TRIBOS-RM is built for top spindle speeds during high-speed cutting. Available for ISO 10, Clamping diameter 1-6 mm.

For HSC machining
The short, compact design allows speeds of more than 50000 RPM. As a result of the rotational symmetry, the residual imbalance is below 2 gmm. This toolholder is the answer to the extreme and complex challenges of HSC machining, e.g. in the area of tool and mold manufacturing for high-speed HSK-E 40 spindles!

Radial rigidity and clamping force
Thanks to its framework design, the TRIBOS-RM remains stable when stressed with high cutting forces. The clamping forces are sufficient to reach the maximum load limit of HSC machining centers. High cutting performance allows faster machining times and therefore increased productivity.

 |
|
 |
|
Dampening and precision
Thanks to the stable construction with a large outer diameter, the TRIBOS-RM also has a vibration-dampening effect on the cutting edges of the tool, which results in smoother machining. Due to a run-out accuracy of less than 0.003 mm, very good surface finishes are achievable in turn leading to time-savings and reduced costs due to less re-work of workpieces.

High clamping forces
Safe and powerful tool clamping. High feed rates and thus cutting volumes can be achieved. Time savings and reduced total costs.

HSC suitable
The TRIBOS Polygonal Clamping Technology was tested at the PTW, the Institute for Production Management, Technology and Machine Tools at the Technical University of Darmstadt by means of centrifugal tests up to 205 000 rpm. The clamping force on the clamped trial bolt was retained throughout the complete speed range.
The TRIBOS Polygonal Clamping System is approved for TRIBOS-R and TRIBOS-RM up to 55 000 rpm and for the TRIBOS-S and TRIBOS-SVL up to 85 000 rpm.
TRIBOS toolholders are precision-balanced as standard.

Clamping process in less than 20 sec.
A tool change can be carried out in less than 20 seconds.
No heating, respectively cooling processes are required.

No moving parts – absolutely maintenance-free
There are no moving parts in the TRIBOS Polygonal Clamping System, consequently it is mechanically insensitive providing absolutely wear-free clamping.
The TRIBOS Polygonal Clamping System clamps tools by means of the residual tension of steel without any moving parts in the toolholder. It is thus insensitive to contamination and absolutely maintenance-free.

Everything can be clamped
Carbide as well as HSS tools can be clamped in the same toolholder. Shanks with Weldon or whistle-notch can also be clamped. The best clamping results are achieved with totally straight shanks with an h6 tolerance.

|
 |
|
Axial length adjustment
The clamping movement of the TRIBOS Polygonal Clamping Technology only arises in a radial direction, consequently no axial movement is present during the clamping process.
A precise axial length adjustment (< 0.01 mm) is possible.

 |
 |
|
 |
|
Absolutely rotation symmetrical design – basic imbalance less than 4 gmm
Due to the optimum concentricity of the totally symmetrical design, the TRIBOS toolholder offers ideal conditions for highest machining speeds with high balance requirements.
All TRIBOS toolholders are fine-balanced as standard for use on HSC machines.

TRIBOS-RM with centrifugal force compensation
The compact and short design of TRIBOS-RM allows high rpm of up to 60,000. As an option, there is a version for even higher rpm available. A modification of the contour allows centrifugal force compensation at high rpm. Clamping force maintenance is assured up to 200,000 rpm. Perfectly suited for use with MMS (minimum amount lubrication)
MMS is a dosing technology system which reduces the amount of lubricant used to a minimum. The amount of lubricant is either fed to the point of application directly or nebulised into a fine spray and then fed to the point of application. The design and assembly of the components inside or outside of the toolholder are similar to those of a nozzle system.
MMS is a loss- or consumption lubrication, which means that the used medium is nearly completely vaporised. The vaporisation and the pressurised air stream also cool the workpiece.
In the area of MMS, SCHUNK works in close cooperation with well-known partners. The aim is to standardise the individual interface components in a joint effort.
If the customer requires it, and once all details have been settled, the SCHUNK toolholders can be re-equipped for MMS operation.
